Taxi Fares Explained
In Victoria, taxi fares are regulated by Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV).
STANDARD
For less than six passengers.-
FLAGFALL:
$4.00 when meter is started. -
DISTANCE:
$2.217 per kilometer. -
TIME:
$0.803 per minute (if speed is below 21 kph). -
TELEPHONE BOOKING:
$2.10 is entered onto the taxi meter at the start of the trip. -
LATE NIGHT SURCHARGE:
$3.80 applies Friday and Saturday between 7 pm and 6 am, Sunday to Thursday between midnight and 6 am. -
HOLIDAY FEE:
$4.65 applies from:
• 7 pm on the evening prior to all public holidays.
• All day Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
• From 6pm on New Years Eve (but not after 6am on other Public Holidays).
The late night fee does not apply during the holiday fee period.
MAXI
For five or more passengers.-
FLAGFALL:
$4.00 when meter is started -
DISTANCE:
$3.272 per kilometer. -
TIME:
$1.050 per minute (if speed is below 21 kph). -
TELEPHONE BOOKING:
$2.10 is entered onto the taxi meter at the start of the trip. -
LATE NIGHT SURCHARGE:

At all times, drivers may request a deposit or proof of payment before or during the trip.
Your driver can refuse to transport you if you do not provide pre-payment.
